Colloquium Log

Log 1: Affordance is huh?

I think affordance is a very broad idea and it can apply to many genres. I feel ambivalent about discussing an idea that is so vague. Where to start? Outer space? A flower wouldn’t blossom without planting a seed. A love story wouldn’t begin without lovers. I need more fruitful information. So water me. Pour me with your succulent love.

BTW I have some issues with grasshopper. Help!

It is actually my school PC's issue that Luc and I discovered later on. It was a truly shocking moment. I'm gonna invoice GSAPP for my time. I'm expensive although students are cheap in general.

Log 2: An idea about my final project

It is time to be selfish. I like to do projects that are about others and not necessarily about my personal matters. It sounds benevolent, but it is actually about my self interests and achievement. Most (a lot) of the artists make art about themselves in an obvious, ruthless way. Like painting or photographing lovers they hooked up with. Or like Tony Tasset pissed his pants as a performance art. Or like Cindy Sherman uses her face like a narcissist.

Anyway.

I have an idea about my final project. I wanted to make it strongly tie to my interest and contribute to the neighborhood I live in as a more responsible, politically correct gentrifier. I used to go to East River Park a lot before the reconstruction. I revisited recently, it became unrecognizable to me with its bulldozed hollow. I know there is a renewal plan that prevents the rising see level and future storms like Sandy, but many locals seems to dislike the idea. I’m not sure how much the community has involved in the renewal plan or what exactly is this new plan. I am going to look into it.

So here comes an idea of my final project: What if the plan looks like this… What if the community participates like… Something like that. (The idea needs to be refined.)

Log 3: I love playful parks

The world is full of imagination. You are a star. The park design reminds us the world is full of imagination and possibilities and not just the endless darkness without a foreseeable future.
